The book of Proverbs is filled with verses that I would call “explanatory warnings,” warnings that explain the way things work in God’s universe. Proverbs 16:18 is one of those verses. It says, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." The verse is not a threat or a promise, just an explanation of how things work. Pride goes before a fall. Nebuchadnezzar’s pride ran so deep that even a clear warning from the Lord did not drive it from him. It took seven years of insanity!
