There are many different kinds of traps. One of the most effective in catching animals is called a “box trap.” It’s very simply a box and a stick to hold up the box. There is a Greek word for that stick. That stick is called a ”Skandalon.” It was used to describe the “springing part of a trap.” This is the part that actually moves for the trap to work. Jesus used that word in our passage this morning John 15 & 16.
He used it to explain what we will study this morning. John 16:1 says, “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away.”
Our passage this morning has one purpose to keep us from “falling away.” To warn and protect us from a “skandalon.” Jesus used that word to describe that trap, trick or scenario that would cause someone to no longer believe in him.
