Samson: Mission Freefall

The book of Judges is filled with waffles… or I should say wafflers. God’s people follow him, make promises to him, but then they see the kind of gods the people around them have and they waffle.
The Israelites saw the gods of the Philistines like Dagon, Baal and Ashtareth… They saw the sexual promiscuity that went with the worship of those gods and it made the God of the Bible seem… Prudish.
God would warn his people, send leaders to his people but in the end if his people rejected him he would let his people wander (our God does not force people to love him) and have the gods their flesh desired. Drawn into sin they soon were enslaved to sin and would cry out to God for salvation.
That is when God would send a Judge to free his people from the bondage they had placed themselves in. Samson was one of those Judges.
But he was a special Judge. He was not to drink wine or strong drink, not to touch or eat anything dead, and no razor was to touch his head. He would be a man set apart for God from conception. A man completely devoted to God for his entire life from the moment he was conceived until death.
